Senior and youth mens teams in action

Our Senior A men’s team played Almost City on Monday night. After going down by one goal to a poorly defended corner our boys dug deep and played some creative Futsal. First 2 goals were scored with back heels. The game ended 8-2 in our favour with some spectacular goals from the players. Score could have been greater as we hit the cross bar and missed far post tap ins on numerous occasions.

Our Youth team played in the B division played Bulleen Magic. Although our team is quite young, they imposed themselves with some fast ball movement and great defensive tackling. The score at half time was 8-1 in our favour. The second half began with 2 quick goals, but our boys became tired as there were no substitutes. The final score was 13-3 to our boys.

Spain crowned Champions of the UEFA Futsal EURO 2012

The UEFA Futsal EURO 2012 held in Zagreb, Croatia proved to be one of the most thrilling tournaments to date. After an extremely competitive fortnight for futsal, Spain met Russia once again in the final. These two countries already have a competitive history, with Russia being denied a EURO trophy by Spain in 2004 and 1995 and Spain being denied a trophy by Russia in 1998. Even before the match began, it was destined to be a spine-tingling one.

With a record-breaking crowd, the game began with Russia claiming an early lead. With only 34 seconds left, Russia was on top, and seemed as though they would claim their second title. As Kike said after the match "Spain never give up, always want a little more." That's exactly what they did, Spain equalised in the dying seconds of the second half and the devastated Russians had to face a tough extra-time situation.

Russia, playing with a Fifth player, looked to dominate the Spaniards until Spain caught the keeper off-guard, clearing the ball and seeing it go into the back of the Russian's net as the buzzer sounded.

A wonderful and compelling final that proved to the world that futsal is a spectacular sport, as Xavi Hernandez of Barcelona said about futsal "You can see the talent of a footballer; perhaps in regular football you cannot appreciate the talent, everything is more physical."

New uniforms decided

Thanks to everyone who voted. The overwhelming majority preferred the red and white strip but there was no clear winner for the second strip. The committee has therefore decided to make variations of the red and white strip for the away and goal keeper uniform. From left to right is the goal keeper, away and home strip

Also please go to our Facebook to vote on what kind of hoodie you prefer.

55 Cobras players at FFA Futsal Nationals

Congratulations to all 55 Cobras who attended the 2012 FFA National Futsal Championships. The week saw many of our players in action against the countries best. This year Victoria performed better than ever with proportionally more teams making it higher on the ladder and into finals.

Cobras players were present in all State teams. This is a testament to our development philosophy as most of these players played for Cobras before getting a Victorian jersey.

Some of the highlights of the week were:

U11 boys Semi-final vs. NSW Thunder. The boys fought it out with the favourites right to the end. They went down 3-2 in extra time and almost scored twice in the last minute. They played better than their opponents but luck was not on their side.

U13 girls grand final vs. NSW Thunder. These girls played some excellent modern Futsal and outclassed their opponents. Scoring goals for both sides was incredibly difficult and our girls went down 1-0 with 2 minutes to go. Unfair and unfortunate however that is the nature of our game.

Youth Men vs. NSW Lightning semi-final. Also a hard fought out game with our boys going down 5-4 in what could have gone either way. This team was made up of players from nearly all clubs who came together to play some great games.

Luck 8 for the Go siblings

What a coincidence, both Sienna Go and Ryan Go won the FFA Futsal Nationals at U14, both wore number 8 which is the lucky number for Chinese. Coincidence or is it just a good gene pool? Whatever the case we congratulate Siena in a flawless game for her team who won the U14 girls National Futsal Championships 2012 downing NSW Lightning 4-2.

Goal of the Year

Davies of our Youth and Senior men's team scored the goal of the year when he volleyed an aerial ball from the left side about 10 metres away from goal smashing it into the top far corner.

He managed the side on scissor kick eluding the goal keeper and getting applause from the opposition bench. Callum is shown here taking a shot in Murcia against the Spanish National champions.

New Training Times

We have changed our training times as many teams were not getting much training and some teams are starting to show signs of individual over team play. The new training times are:
Sub Juniors 2:30 - 3:30pm
U11 boys 3:10 - 4:30pm
U13/14 boys 4:10 - 5:30pm
Junior girls 5:10 - 6:30pm
Senior Women 6:10 - 7:30pm
U15/16 boys 7:10 - 8:30pm
Youth / Senior men 8:10 - 9:30pm
The first 20 minutes will be a technical warm up. Players who arrive late will still have to do the warm up before joining into the main game. It is very important to turn up to training if you wish to make a State Team so that you will know what the selectors are looking for.

Open Womens MFL

Sunday at St Monica's in Epping was host to the third leg of the Open Women's MFL. Cobras have 4 teams out of the 7. The first game was the game of the season as both Cobras 1 and Vipers were undefeated and both were playing good Futsal. Cobras 1 played quality sound Futsal and won the game 5-3.
Cobras 2 coached by Mark Torcaso came up against EFA Eagles 1 accounting for them with a 5-1 win. Jeff's girls then played their final game beating EFA Eagles 2. This leaves them as Premiers as they finished on top of the ladder with no losses. Well done to Jeff Hawkins and his players.
The final game of the round was Cobras 3 v Cobras 4. Cobras 4 were strengthened greatly with the returns of Vibeke and Judy in goals. The game went right down to the wire with Cobras 4 going into the first half 1-0. Cobras 4 scored first in the second half with Cobras 3 scoring late in the half with both teams going goal for goal. The score was 3-2 when a final chance at the near post missed by millimetres which would have tied the result. A very exciting match finishing 3-2 in favour of Cobras 4.
